RSMU Scientists Patent Dental Prostheses

RSMU scientists have patented the technology of manufacturing removable dental prostheses. 54 patients took part in the research at RSMU. Sergey Kalinovsky, RA of the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry and Orthodontics, a member of the Dental Association, explains that the device is aimed at improving speech quality of those wearing prostheses. The innovation is to recreate the relief of the patient's upper palate and tongue on the surfaces of the prosthesis in order to preserve the natural anatomical features for the tongue, namely, changed position affects the purity of pronunciation and functional properties of dentures. Moreover, the patented technology of forming the palatine arch allows to make the prosthesis thinner and lighter. Prostheses, produced according to the patented technology, are made of plastic or thermoplastic. Their shelf life doesn’t differ from the one of standard prostheses and they don’t require special care.
